Heard "OURSS." and curious about blogging and this RSS thing? Here's some baby steps to start. (#arts)

Read other’s blogs

Start subscribing via a RSS Feed Reader. For ideas, see who I sub to on my profile (currently a mockup) on OURSS.SOCIAL

First-choice: NetNewsWire native apps

Hon mention: InoReader online

Not ready to use a feed reader? Subscribe via email where you can, but be sure to use aliases (w/ SimpleLogin, AnonAddy etc) unless you know & trust the person

Release content

Some content platforms are more closed than others. These are ones I got started on which ultimately let me embed them on my own website today.

Music: Bandcamp

Video: Vimeo (25% off)

Podcast: Anchor

Get a static 1-page website

Not ready to churn out regular content, but want a web-presence you own. Buy a domain and plop down an intro there (think of it as a virtual business card / Linktree)

First-choice: Carrd (use my Moderner templates for just 3 bucks)

Hon mention: Squarespace (if you’ve got money and/or might wanna ultimately bolt-on a blog there)

and finally… Start a blog

don’t wait for OURSS. You’ll get most out of it if you already have an active blog at a domain you own.

First-choice: (hosted) Micro.blog

Hon mention: Ghost and Substack (w/ custom-domain)

Thanks for enjoying the musical manifesto to OURSS.SOCIAL. I can’t wait to get some useful tools up there to make RSS more social in the new year.
