Yesterday's #Tech news(paper): @TheTimes | front page #FakeBook: how gov supports them, and a better way of being a tech company

Anti-FB dominating the front-page!

Main paper:

Times2: so poignant what was said about “designing away childhood”

For more brilliant testimony from brave young people, watch back the stories from FirstWeek FlipPhone

Brilliant to see this negative PR spilling into tangible effects in the Business pages:

And Australia continue to lead the way trialling a better way forward for protecting youngsters.

Britain need to trial such a program of banning underage users from porn sites first. As the main story showed they themselves are open to it (whereas FB are still clinging to the dream of Instagram for Kiddos), and the urgent moral case is most clear.

Then they should extend it to social media. As De Souza points out in main story, they have face scanning tech to KNOW these so-called 13 year olds are 11, so they can’t play dumb forever.

Meanwhile, a “tech company” whose actually innovated something tangible is having more long-term success:

Maybe Facebook should stop trying to clone TikTok, and re-focus on making Oculus really good and safe for children & their data, so we can avoid using Chinese XR hardware.

That would be a real innovation to help people in the West!

While Western governments across the Atlantic are channeling Facebook’s mentality of trying to control information:

and murderously punish those who dare to share:
